After Tropfest was cancelled in December due to a highly publicised financial shortfall and new sponsor CGU Insurance emerged to bring it back to life, the 16 finalist films screened in Centennial Park with a live broadcast on SBS 2. One of the Judges was Mel Gibson who has been back in the country making Hacksaw Ridge.
